What Procedure Is Most Valuable? Here is our opinion and why - eyelid tuck. By Dr. Sutton Graham on August 22, 2016

What is the best cosmetic surgery procedure?  That is a difficult question, and the best answer for any one person really depends on their own anatomy and which features they like and don't like.  There is actually no one best procedure for everyone, but blepharoplasty (eyelid tuck) is one procedure that is often beneficial for men and women, over a wide range of ages, among different nationalities and skin types.

Beginning in the thirties, the eyelid area of the face begins to show changes.  Some are due to gravity.  Some are due to changes in elasticity and tone of fat and muscles.  Some changes are due to ultraviolet damage (sun exposure and tanning).  Eventually even the bony skeleton changes.  By our fifties most of us notice significant change in the appearance of our eye area.  These changes may make us look older, sad. tired or less healthy.  Fortunately, there are options to improve the appearance.  Depending on which features are most bothersome, we suggest treatment options.  Photo gallery of our results http://www.expertplasticsurgeon.com/photogallery/eyelid-surgery-blepharoplasty-4802

Sagging upper eyelid skin is treated by surgical removal - blepharoplasty.  If your condition is mild to moderate, you can often have this done under only local anesthesia in an office setting.  Patients report little pain and are ready to resume easy activities in a few days.  Mild bruising should resolve in 1-2 weeks and your vision is usually fine.  Some patients notice improved peripheral vision because the hanging skin is gone.  Your lid area will not look tight, artificial or "done".  Most of your friends will not know what you did. but will notice that you look better, fresher, more alert, healthier.

Mild under eye bags may be camouflaged by Restylane filler nearby, but prominent fat pads need surgical removal.  This can be combined with upper lid treatment, or facial or other procedures.  Loose lower lid skin is tightened with removal or laser peel.  Patients are usually asleep.  Scars are tiny and heal very well.  Vision may be effected by swelling for a few days.  Bruising is common but resolves.  Again, friends will notice how good you look without necessarily noticing that you had blepharoplasty.

Eyelid surgery is the second most common procedure for men and the third most common procedure for women.  It is the most common facial surgery among both groups.
