Top Cosmetic Procedures During COVID19
As expected the pandemic impacted interest in cosmetic surgery in 2020, temporarily. Interest has rebounded strongly in 2021 (we will have annual statistics for that year in early 2022).
Lets look at the most popular procedures from last year. The top five were:
- Rhinoplasty
- Eyelid blepharoplasty
- Facelift
- Liposuction
- Breast Augmentation
Interestingly, liposuction and breast implants are usually the most common, and will certainly rebound strongly. Our practice saw strong interest in breast augmentation, breast lift, blepharoplasty, facelift and gynecomastia treatment for men. We do not offer nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) so we couldn't assess changes in public interest.
Many observers have speculated about reasons why many cosmetic surgery procedures rebounded so strongly after closures and lockdowns in April, May and June 2020. Eyelid surgery interest may be caused by the prevalence of video conferencing (Zoom, Skype, etc.). Facelift increases could be caused by the fact that so many people were out of the public eye, even if they were working remotely. Plus facelift recovery was now easy since patients could literally have surgey and visit the grocery store within a week, while wearing thier required facemasks. And tummy tuck patients could possibly have surgery and not share that with their coworkers, by periodically logging-on and performing some remote work.
In 2021 our staff are all thrilled to be back full time, caring for our patients, both regular and new ones. We are pleased that vaccinations have allowed us to safely get together again.
