We Can Reshape Your Breasts to Restore Symmetry and Proportion

Although breast lift and breast reduction procedures are perhaps not as well known as breast augmentation, they nonetheless offer significant benefits to many women who are unhappy with the appearance of their breasts. For women whose breasts are sagging due to pregnancy or the effects of aging, a breast lift can restore beauty and shapeliness to the bust line. For women who are burdened with large, heavy breasts, a breast reduction procedure can alleviate discomfort while enhancing the appearance of the breasts. Both types of breast surgery can increase one’s confidence and self-image, and are performed with excellent results by our talented, trusted surgeon, Dr. Sutton Graham. We work carefully to tailor treatment and incorporate sophisticated 3-D imaging to help patients develop realistic expectations of their results.

We invite you to read more about breast reduction and lift, available to Greenville and Spartanburg area residents at the Aesthetic Center. Our Greenville practice also offers male breast reduction surgery to provide aesthetic solutions to men with gynecomastia.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Breast lift is another popular breast procedure we perform frequently. Most often it is done alone, but it can be combined with breast augmentation when needed. Over time the lower pole (lower half) of the breast expands and drops, the shape flattens, and the upper fullness disappears. To improve the breast appearance, your own gland tissue is preserved and elevated higher on the chest, the nipple is brought up, and the lower pole is tightened. The pigmented areola around the nipple can be made smaller. There are several ways to do this operation depending on the patient’s needs. All of them trade some type of scar for the improved appearance.

During your breast lift consultation at our Greenville practice, we will show you a variety of examples of other patients’ results. Dr. Graham will use the mirror to demonstrate a moderate degree of improvement and the probable location of incisions. If you are also choosing breast implants, you will use a bra and sizers to demonstrate the degree of fullness.

The procedure will be done in two to three hours under general anesthesia. After a stay in the recovery area you’ll return home. Medications are given for post-operative pain. Plan light activities at home the first few days, then typically resume most activities in about a week. You will have several office follow-up visits to ensure the recovery process is going smoothly.

Risks will be discussed and given to you in written form prior to surgery. We’ll give you a soft bra to wear for a few weeks before you shop for new ones. Early over-correction will decrease. The improvement is significant, but the results will change with age and gravity.

Breast Reduction

Large, heavy breasts can cause a number of problems for many women. Daily shoulder, neck, and upper back pain are the most common symptoms. Others include slumped posture, rashes, moisture, shoulder grooves, increased pain with exercise, and poor bra fit. Problems include embarrassment, unwanted attention, poor fit and limited choices of clothing. Breast reduction surgery (reduction mammaplasty) is very effective at relieving these symptoms. The procedure makes the breasts smaller and more even. It can also give you a breast lift and bring up low nipples. Breast reduction is one of the few procedures that your insurance may cover. We’ll submit documentation for approval prior to surgery. If it is not approved, we offer an affordable package.

During your consultation, you’ll see before-and-after photos of a number of other patients and we’ll review your medical history and breast problems. Dr. Graham will discuss your desired post-op cup size and proportions, and estimate an amount to remove. Scars and numbness are some of the trade-offs with the breast reduction procedure. You may have questions about combining reduction with liposuction or tummy tuck.

Breast reduction surgery is performed on an outpatient basis in about 3 hours. Long-acting local anesthetics are used in combination with general anesthesia. Post-op medications include antibiotics, pain medications, and nausea prevention drugs. Specific instructions are given to reduce the risk of blood clots following surgery. Most women can return to light work and driving in approximately one week. You will notice relief of pre-op symptoms soon after surgery, and they will continue to improve during the recovery process. We’ll evaluate your progress several times over the first few months following surgery.

Risks will be discussed and details will be given to you before surgery. We’ll provide a soft bra to wear. You will want to let swelling resolve and healing continue for a few weeks before you invest in new bras (most women enjoy this shopping trip for a change). One of the health benefits of breast reduction is your ability to begin or resume more physical fitness activities now that you can feel more comfortable with yourself.
