Chin / Neck Liposustion: Case 1
Description
This 30 year old woman had concerns about the appearance of the area under her chin and jawline -- a so called "double chin." She had had this problem for years. She was slim and this could not be attributed to bring over-weight. Her facial anatomy was otherwise attractive and well contoured (although she also wanted lower eyelid bags removed - see gallery photos under lower eyelid for that issue). Dr. Graham evaluated her concerns. This is described medically as submental fat. Patients may have localized excess of the fat under the skin (submental fat), or the deeper subplatysmal fat, or lax skin, or lax platysmal muscle (muscle bands) or a combination of these issues. Physical examination by an experienced plastic surgery helps determine the nature of the problem and the best solution. Treatment options include non-surgical methods such as Coolsculpting or Kybell injections, options which we also offer. In her case liposuction was an excellent choice because she also wanted the lower eyelids treated surgically. This combined complimentary procedures and coordinated the recovery period. It also gave her the neck improvement all at once. The non-surgical treatments gradually imrpove the area over several months time. Liposuction may actually be less expensive than some non-surgical methods! As an aside, if this were her only area of treatment (only the submental fat) we would have suggested she consider having it done under local anesthesia, while remaining completely awake, and able to care for herself. This is a common office procedure for our patients. She had anesthesia for combined treatment of her lower eyelids and chin.
