Breast Areola Reduction: Case 1 (30149)
Description
This 22 yo woman sought help with her wide areolas. Her nipples were normal sized, but the surrounding pigmented skin was proportionally too large. Her breasts were also large and caused her health and comfort problems. Our suggestion was reduction of the breasts in general and reduction of the diameter of the areolas. This is also commonly done during breast lifts. Hidden absorbable sutures are placed to close the area after the excess pigmented skin is removed. This procedure is sometimes called a "doughnut mastopexy." When the areola reduction is the only procedure, it can be done with local anesthesia, while the patient is wide awake. The recovery is simple and there is little downtime.
