Breast Ruptured Gel Implants: Case 1 (19438)
Description
This 67 yo woman had silicone gel implants placed in the 1970's and was happy with them initially. In the past few years she has noticed that they felt hard and were occasionally uncomfortable. A recent mammogram identified leakage from one of the implants (right). Her current breast size was 38 C cup, and she decided that she did not want another breast implant. She wanted to be smaller, probably a B cup. Dr. Graham estimated that the old implants were 250ml in volume. Over the years she had developed some sagging of her breasts and requested a breast lift be done at the time of implant removal. The planned procedure was complete capsulectomy, removal of ruptured gel implants and any scar nodules (silicone granuloma) and mastopexy (breast lift). The procedure was done in our nationally accredited in-house surgical facility. Her recovery was smooth, and she told us, "I'm looking good."
