Breast Ruptured Gel Implants: Case 2 (19551)
Description
This woman presented with old silicone gel implants and rupture demonstrated on recent mammogram. The implants had been in place more than 20 years. She was not experiencing pain or other symptoms. She wanted to have implants removed and replaced with saline filled implants. The estimated implant volume was 300-350 ml. For safety and best healing we recommended that the procedure be done in two stages. First Dr. Graham performed complete capsulectomy, removal of nodules, biopsy of hard masses, removal of silicone gel material and implant remnants, and breast lift (mastopexy). Several months later after complete healing, he performed the second stage, during which new saline implants were placed (breast augmentation). One year postop, her breasts were soft, well shaped, and fit in the same bra as preop. Her sensation was normal. Her mammogram was normal. She reported that "this has been a good experience." We are glad to have helped.
